Guest Advisor LOD

Position Purpose:

Provide guests withexceptional customerservice bybeingthesubject matterexpert on allproducts,nutrition,services,in-storepromotions,local communityeventsand otherareasofanimalcareand wellness. The Guest Advisor may be a 'key holder' and Leader on Duty (LOD) on a limited basis as needed.

Essential Job Functions:Theincumbentmustbeabletoperform allofthefollowingdutiesandresponsibilitieswithorwithoutareasonableaccommodation.

  • Actasapersonal shopper/informationcenterforcustomersastheyenterthestoreandbe100%focusedoncustomer service.
  • ProvidequickandcourteousservicetoallPETCOcustomersandtheir petsbydeterminingtheirneedsandsharingproductknowledgetosuggesttheappropriatemerchandiseandservicestosatisfythem.
  • Beknowledgeableabout pet-relatedevents/resourcesandrelatedcostswithinthecommunityincludingdogparks,dogorcatshows,pet-friendlyhotels, etc.
  • Expresspassionaboutanimal welfareandmaintainintegrityintheworkarea.
  • Befamiliarwithallnewproductsandservicesinordertobeabletoengagewithcustomersregardingnewproductandservicesfeaturesandbenefits.
  • Politelyandprofessionallyrespondtoinquiriesregardingproducts,servicesandpricingviathetelephone.
  • Bend, kneel, lift (upto50pounds,asnecessary) andstandforlongperiodsoftime.
Supervisory Responsibility:None.Work Environment:

Themajorityofjob dutiesareconducted indoors, althoughmerchandise stockingandcustomer carry-outswill requirethatanassociate leave thestorebriefly. Because thisposition requiresbending, kneeling,lifting (upto50 pounds,as necessary)andstandingforlongperiodsoftime. The largemajorityofthisassociate'stimewill bespentin direct contact with ourcustomers.

Education and Experience:
  • High schooldiplomaorGED is generallypreferred.
  • Prefer aminimumof2yearsofexperienceinproviding the publicinformation inthe animalnutrition, care/wellness/treatmentknowledgeareasisrequired.
  • A minimum of one year in a retail environment is highly preferred.
  • Possess basic computer skills with the ability to quickly research information from the Internet.
  • Must be proficient in the use of the PETCO PetNet and have the ability to access product information using the POLARIS system.
  • Must be certified on all 4 Companion Animal Departments.
  • Must be Nutrition certified.
  • Must be PIJAC certified (California only).
  • Have thorough understanding of all aspects of Pet Services to include:
  • Knowledge of the grooming salon program certification (PETCO Promise, Pet Stylist Mentor Program, Canine Heritage Breed Test, Pet First Aid.)
  • Familiarity with the dog training class offerings and the store's dog training schedule.
  • Familiarity with the store's photography and vaccination schedule.
  • Previous PETCO experience preferred.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
